Bogota: Colombian President Gustavo Petro has extended an invitation to US President Donald Trump to visit Colombia and witness the country's anti-drug operations firsthand, asserting that Trump has been seriously misinformed about the situation.

According to Anadolu Agency, Petro made his invitation via a lengthy post on US social media company X on Thursday, in direct response to Trump's recent threats and accusations. Petro highlighted that his government had executed the largest cocaine seizure operation in history, confiscating 2,700 tons of cocaine. Furthermore, he detailed that the Colombian army had undertaken 1,446 ground operations against mafia organizations and conducted 13 bombing operations to target their leaders, with most operations benefiting from joint military intelligence.

Petro also dismissed missile strikes as ineffective and a breach of sovereignty, advocating instead for genuine international cooperation against narco finances rather than relying on threats. The invitation followed Trump's statements earlier this week, where he labeled Petro as "hostile" and cautioned that Colombia "will be next" after Venezuela if the drug flow was not curtailed. The US had previously carried out strikes on Venezuelan boats in recent months, alleging them to be involved in drug trafficking.
