Riyadh: China is 'ready' to be Saudi Arabia's 'most trustworthy and dependable partner,' Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated during a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh. The meeting marked an effort to deepen political, economic, and strategic cooperation between the two nations.
According to Anadolu Agency, Wang met the crown prince during an official visit to Saudi Arabia focused on bilateral consultations, as highlighted in statements released by both the Chinese and Saudi governments. Wang emphasized China's readiness to support Saudi Arabia's national revitalization process, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, and expand collaboration in emerging industries. He also expressed Beijing's willingness to work with Gulf Cooperation Council countries to conclude a Free Trade Agreement and enhance stability in the Middle East.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated Saudi Arabia's desire to deepen ties with China and highlighted the kingdom's commitment to the one-China principle. He mentioned plans to expand cooperation in sectors such as oil and gas, new energy, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies. The meeting also addressed regional and global issues, with a focus on strengthening bilateral relations.
In a separate development, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Faisal and Wang Yi expressed their support for a 'comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian question' based on the two-state solution, relevant UN resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative. The statement underscored the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
During the fifth meeting of the Political Sub-committee of the China-Saudi Arabia high-level joint committee, both ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation across various sectors. The Chinese Foreign Ministry statement highlighted China's support for Saudi Arabia's diplomatic efforts, including its relations with Iran, and acknowledged Saudi Arabia's role in promoting regional security.
The two countries also agreed to implement mutual visa exemptions for diplomatic, service, and special passport holders, reflecting their deepening partnership. China and Saudi Arabia established a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2016, with 2026 marking its 10th anniversary. China remains Saudi Arabia's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade valued at approximately $107 billion.
Wang Yi is scheduled to visit Jordan on the final leg of his three-nation tour, which concludes Tuesday, following an earlier visit to the United Arab Emirates.
