Bishkek: Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov on Tuesday signed a decree to establish the country's embassy in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

According to Anadolu Agency, the diplomatic mission in Cairo will provide consular services to approximately 3,000 Kyrgyz citizens in Egypt and neighboring North African countries. The statement from the Kyrgyz president's press services indicated that the decision will help the two countries strengthen their political, trade, economic, investment, scientific, technical, educational, cultural, and humanitarian ties.

The statement further elaborated that the opening of the Kyrgyz Republic Embassy in the Arab Republic of Egypt contributes to the implementation of the country's foreign policy on the African continent, diversifies foreign policy relations, and expands the geography of its diplomatic presence. The decree will take effect in January 2026, but the date of the embassy's opening has yet to be specified.

Kyrgyzstan achieved independence from the Soviet Union in August 1991. Since then, the republic has developed diplomatic relations with over 170 countries. Kyrgyzstan is a full member of the UN and a member of 124 international organizations, where it actively promotes multilateral cooperation to strengthen political dialogue.
