Ankara: Trkiye will continue to assess joint steps it can take with Malaysia in the defense industry field, "guided by the win-win principle," President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday. Erdogan's remarks came during a joint news conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

According to Anadolu Agency - English, Erdogan noted his visit to Kuala Lumpur last year, where both nations agreed to establish a high-level cooperation council. The first meeting of this council took place on Wednesday, during which several agreements were signed to strengthen bilateral relations. Malaysia is Trkiye's largest trading partner in the ASEAN region, and both countries are committed to reaching a trade volume target of $10 billion.

Erdogan also expressed a desire for increased Malaysian investment in Trkiye. He emphasized the importance of renewing momentum in investment relations and promoting mutual investments. The discussions also included education and culture, aiming to strengthen ties between the two countries, and addressed global issues of mutual concern, with both nations sharing similar views.

A joint declaration on the establishment of the high-level strategic cooperation council and several other agreements were signed. These include a memorandum of understanding between the Investment and Finance Office of Trkiye and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, and economic and social research cooperation between SETA and the Malaysian Institute of Strategic and International Studies.

Additional agreements include a letter of acceptance for a multi-purpose mission vessel between DESAN Shipyards and the Malaysian Home Affairs Ministry, and a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in information and communication technologies.
