Washington: US President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he is retracting an invitation for Canada to participate in the "Board of Peace," an initiative designed to address international conflicts, with a particular focus on the Gaza Strip.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump communicated the decision on his Truth Social platform, addressing Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. He stated, "Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada's joining, what will be, the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled, at any time."

Prime Minister Carney, speaking earlier in the week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, expressed concerns about the weakening of the rules-based international order traditionally aligned with US leadership. He advised middle powers to diversify trade and enhance their resilience in light of these changes.

Following Carney's remarks, Trump criticized the Canadian prime minister, suggesting that Canada should be "grateful" to the US. The relationship between the two nations has been tense since Trump implemented tariffs on Canadian products and subsequently suspended trade talks due to an anti-tariff advertisement broadcast in the US.
