Davos: US President Donald Trump officially introduced his 'Board of Peace' at the World Economic Forum in Davos, focusing initially on the reconstruction of Gaza. The initiative, which has secured support from significant Middle Eastern nations like Saudi Arabia, Trkiye, Egypt, and Qatar, marks a pivotal moment in international diplomatic efforts. The 'Board of Peace' forms part of Trump's 20-point plan, which was adopted by the UN Security Council in November 2025.
According to Anadolu Agency, several countries have agreed to join Trump's peace initiative. Notable participants include Trkiye, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, whose representatives attended the ceremony in Davos. Morocco, Bahrain, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Vietnam, Albania, Bulgaria, Paraguay, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia also confirmed their participation, with leaders present at the launch event.
Meanwhile, some nations are still contemplating their involvement. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed readiness to support the initiative with a substantial financial contribution, while China, Germany, India, Brazil, and the Vatican are among those reviewing the invitation. Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney has yet to decide, although Trump has since withdrawn Canada's invitation. Other countries such as Ireland, Romania, Finland, and Japan are still considering their positions.
Conversely, several European countries have opted out of the initiative. The UK, France, Norway, Sweden, and Slovenia have all cited various legal, institutional, and international concerns as reasons for their refusal. Italy has requested more time to deliberate, pointing to constitutional issues before making a commitment.
The announcement of the 'Board of Peace' coincides with the second phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which has temporarily halted the conflict in Gaza that resulted in significant casualties. As the international community watches closely, the success of this initiative may set a precedent for future global peace endeavors.
