World’s Largest Sovereign Wealth Fund Reports $247 Billion Earnings in 2025

Oslo: Norway's $2 trillion sovereign wealth fund reported a profit of 2.36 trillion Norwegian kroners ($247 billion) in 2025, driven by gains in the technology, financial, and mining sectors, its management team announced on Thursday. The fund's value rose to $2.2 trillion by the end of the previous year, marking an increase of approximately $159.2 billion throughout 2025.

According to Anadolu Agency, the fund achieved a return on investment of 15.1% in 2025, which was slightly below its benchmark index by 0.28 percentage points, as determined by the nation's finance minister. Stocks constituted about 71% of the fund's portfolio and delivered a robust 19.3% return last year.

Managed by Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) on behalf of the Norwegian people, the fund invests in over 7,000 businesses across 60 countries. It was established in the 1990s to channel surplus profits from Norway's oil and gas sector into long-term investments. Among its notable investments are a 1.3% interest in Nvidia, a 1.2% stake in Apple, and a 1.3% stake in Microsoft.

Nicolai Tangen, CEO of Norges Bank Investment Management, remarked, "The fund delivered very strong results in 2025. Stocks in technology, financials and basic materials stood out, making a significant contribution to the overall return."
