Thailand Commences Early Voting for February 8 General Elections

Bangkok: Early voting for Thailand's parliamentary elections commenced at 8 am local time (0100GMT) on Sunday. The early voting process is designed to accommodate approximately 2 million eligible voters who are unable to cast their votes on the official polling day of February 8.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Election Commission reported that 2.41 million individuals registered for advance voting. This early voting period is scheduled to conclude at 5 pm (1000GMT). In total, Thailand has 52.92 million registered eligible voters, highlighting the scale of this electoral exercise.

Authorities established 424 polling stations for voters who are casting ballots outside their constituencies and 421 stations for those voting early within their own constituencies, both in Bangkok and other provinces. Additionally, 22 polling stations across 18 provinces have been specifically designated for elderly voters and people with disabilities.

Bangkok recorded the highest number of advance voting registrants, with a total of 844,672 individuals. More than 90 candidates from 57 political parties are vying for 500 seats in the House of Representatives in the upcoming February 8 elections.
