Sydney: Microsoft founder Bill Gates expressed his regret over spending time with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, describing his actions as 'foolish.' Gates's comments came during a recent interview with 9News Australia following the release of nearly 3 million pages of documents related to Epstein.

According to Anadolu Agency, Gates firmly denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein, and rejected claims that he visited Epstein Island, where allegations of child abuse and human trafficking have been made. Gates stated, "It's factually true that I was only at dinners. I never went to the island, I never met any women."

He further clarified that although his association with Epstein was a mistake, it had nothing to do with the criminal activities associated with Epstein. Gates emphasized, "The more that comes out, the more clear it will be that, although the time was a mistake, it had nothing to do with that kind of behavior."

The 70-year-old philanthropist admitted his regret, stating, "I was foolish to spend time with him. I was one of many people who regret ever knowing him." Gates also dismissed allegations mentioned in draft emails Epstein wrote in 2013, which were part of the documents released by the US Justice Department. He stated, "Apparently, Jeffrey wrote an email to himself. Ah, that email was never sent. The email is false."

The release of Epstein-related documents, made possible by the Epstein Files Transparency Act signed into law by President Donald Trump on November 19, has brought forward a wealth of information, including photos of prominent figures and investigative records. However, many documents remain heavily redacted to protect victims.

Epstein died in his New York City jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. In 2008, he pleaded guilty in Florida to procuring a minor for prostitution, a conviction that has since been criticized as a 'sweetheart deal.'
