Russian Ambassador Confirms Ongoing Oil Supply to Cuba

Havana: Russia's ambassador to Havana has confirmed that Moscow will continue its supply of oil to Cuba, emphasizing a history of consistent deliveries in recent years. Viktor Koronelli, in an interview with Russian state news agency RIA, stated, "Russian oil has been supplied to Cuba on numerous occasions in recent years. We expect this practice to continue," with his remarks being published overnight.

According to Anadolu Agency, the continuation of Russian oil supplies comes amidst heightened tensions following a recent executive order by US President Donald Trump. Last month, Trump declared a 'national emergency' and introduced a mechanism to impose tariffs on goods from countries that provide oil to Cuba. This move follows the US capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on January 3, with Trump asserting that Cuba faces potential collapse due to the loss of support from Venezuela.

The US administration is reportedly engaged in ongoing discussions with Cuban leadership. In response, Russia has voiced opposition to unilateral sanctions on independent states, labeling such actions as 'categorically unacceptable.' Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, condemned the measures against Cuba, expressing confidence that Cuba will sustain effective foreign economic relations despite these external pressures.
