Muscat: Oman's foreign minister conducted a second round of separate talks with Iranian and US officials, as part of ongoing indirect negotiations in Muscat between Tehran and Washington aimed at easing tensions, as reported by Iranian media on Friday. Iran's state news agency IRNA highlighted that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi shared Iran's perspectives with his Omani counterpart, Badr Albusaidi, during this round of discussions.

According to Anadolu Agency, the first round of talks involved Araghchi presenting a proposed plan to the Omani side, which was subsequently communicated to Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy for the Middle East. In the ongoing negotiations, the American delegation's response is expected to be conveyed to the Iranian side. The US delegation also shared its viewpoints with the Omani mediators during the initial round of consultations.

A brief pause occurred in the talks as both parties consulted their respective capitals, according to Iranian media reports. The Iranian delegation, led by Araghchi, includes Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy for Political Affairs; Esmaeil Baghaei, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson; Hamid Ghanbari, Deputy for Economic Affairs; along with other Iranian diplomats.

US representation in the talks consists of Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and assistant. These negotiations are taking place against a backdrop of escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, exacerbated by an American military buildup in the Persian Gulf and repeated threats of military action by US President Donald Trump. In recent developments, several other countries, including Trkiye, have offered to mediate between Tehran and Washington to help reduce tensions.
