Azerbaijan’s Aliyev Signals Readiness for Immediate Peace Treaty with Armenia

Berlin: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced in Germany that Azerbaijan is ready to sign a final peace treaty with Armenia as soon as Armenia makes constitutional amendments to eliminate territorial claims against Azerbaijan. This statement was made during the Munich Security Conference.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Aliyev communicated that Baku's stance has been consistently conveyed to Armenia over the years, emphasizing that the required amendments to the Armenian Constitution are essential. He expressed that once these amendments are in place, a peace treaty could be signed as early as the next day.

Aliyev pointed out that peace has been in effect following a summit in Washington last August. The initialing of the peace treaty and the signing of the Joint Declaration, facilitated by US President Donald Trump, were cited as indicators of a de facto resolution to the long-standing conflict.

The Azerbaijani leader highlighted that the formal conclusion of the peace process is contingent on Armenia's internal legal procedures. He clarified that Azerbaijan does not consider this requirement as meddling in Armenia's domestic affairs but as a precaution to prevent future Armenian administrations from making territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
