Paris: The France-based EuroPalestine Association called on Wednesday for a boycott of dates sold in the country that are produced in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
According to Anadolu Agency, the association, which advocates for Palestinian rights, has sustained its call to boycott Israeli products during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, a period when date consumption experiences a significant rise. The association’s president, Olivia Zemor, highlighted that a substantial portion of Medjool-branded dates sold in France “come from illegal Israeli settlements or companies complicit in the occupation.”
Zemor pointed out that some boxes label Jordan or Morocco as the country of origin but alleged that the products are actually Israeli. She emphasized that as part of the boycott campaign, volunteers have been conducting awareness activities in supermarkets to inform consumers, with the aim of promoting the consumption of alternative products.
The association has also reminded sellers of their obligation under French regulations to clearly indicate the country of origin, especially for dried fruits. Zemor stressed that products originating from occupied Palestinian territories cannot be labeled as “Israel.” She further argued that boycotting these products could negatively impact the Israeli economy, noting that some multinational food companies are also included in the “boycott targets.”
