Washington: US President Donald Trump has declared an increase in global import tariffs, raising them from 10% to 15%. This decision comes despite a recent ruling by the Supreme Court against his previous efforts to hike tariffs.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, citing dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court’s decision, which he described as “ridiculous” and “anti-American.” He stated that the new tariff rate would take effect immediately, emphasizing his commitment to adjusting the tariffs despite the court’s ruling.
The decision to raise tariffs follows Trump’s remarks expressing disappointment with the court’s decision to invalidate what he termed ’emergency’ tariffs. These tariffs had initially been implemented as part of his broader trade policy initiatives. The move signals a continuation of Trump’s tariff campaign, which has been a significant aspect of his economic strategy.
