Turkish Patrol Boats Make Strategic Entry into Southeast Asian Market

Ankara: Multi-purpose patrol boats developed and manufactured within the Turkish defense industry are set to be exported to Southeast Asia.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Turkish defense industry, having increased its exports to over $10 billion with its wide array of products, is marking new milestones with its advanced platforms.

The Turkish shipbuilding sector is enhancing its international market presence by addressing the growing need for detection, tracking, and defense against maritime threats. With solutions spanning various classes, these products have achieved export success. Bay Galata, an international defense contractor, and Kraken Marine Industries, which specializes in design and engineering, have successfully implemented a model for delivering boutique and high-tech products to the global market, as reported by firms last week.

The collaboration between Bay Galata and Kraken Marine will witness the export of two armored and weaponized multi-purpose patrol boats to a Southeast Asian country. This marks the first export of such a naval platform from Turkey to the region.

The partnership's objective is to enhance the footprint of Turkish products and bolster the presence of the Turkish shipbuilding industry both domestically and regionally by completing this inaugural project. In a market traditionally dominated by European and US-made boats, Turkish boats are poised to gain a foothold with their competitive 'high performance/cost' ratio, potentially setting a precedent for other countries in the region.

Marine vehicles and technologies produced in Trkiye are distinguished by their technical capabilities, competitive pricing, and solid references. These are further complemented by pre- and post-sales services, training programs, and local production incentives for purchasing countries. The shipbuilding capabilities also showcase technical, electronic, and navigation programs, alongside local solutions in weapons and turret systems.

Armored and weaponized multi-purpose patrol boats present significant potential in addressing the maritime security needs of countries in the region. With their high maneuverability and speed, these boats facilitate rapid responses to issues such as piracy, smuggling, and illegal fishing in Southeast Asian waters.

The armored design of the boats ensures personnel protection during operations in narrow channels or river mouths. Their weapon systems enable transformation from observation vessels to active defense/attack platforms. The design capabilities allow these boats to perform balanced tasks in open seas and deliver high performance in shallow waters.
