Trkiye Monitoring US Operations in Syria and Iraq, No S-400 Deployment in Somalia

Ankara: Trkiye is closely monitoring the United States' activities in Syria and Iraq, alongside other regional developments, the country's National Defense Ministry stated.

According to Anadolu Agency, ministry sources indicated that the activities of the US in these regions are being closely monitored in coordination with relevant state units.

The sources highlighted Syria's accession as the 90th member of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and the increasing authority of the Syrian government as influential factors in Washington's reassessment of its military presence in the country.

In relation to Somalia, efforts to support the Somali Armed Forces' organization and counterterrorism operations are ongoing, focusing on securing Somalia's economic resources and national interests. The sources confirmed that there is no plan to deploy Trkiye's S-400 air defense systems in Somalia. These systems were acquired for the operational needs of the Turkish Armed Forces and are ready for duty. The ministry cautioned against speculation regarding the S-400s, emphasizing the importance of official statements.

National Defense Ministry spokesman Rear Adm. Zeki Akturk stressed the importance of reconstruction in Gaza and the continuous delivery of humanitarian aid. He also noted that Israel's efforts to expand illegal settlements in the West Bank undermine peace and stability, urging all parties to act with common sense and commit to a two-state solution.
