Islamabad: Pakistan on Thursday expressed 'serious concern' over recent attacks targeting Trkiye and Azerbaijan, warning that the incidents risk further escalation in the region. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the attacks on the two 'brotherly countries' violated international law and the principles of inter-state relations. Islamabad reaffirmed its solidarity with both nations and called for 'restraint' and 'diplomacy to maintain regional peace.'

According to Anadolu Agency, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also raised concern over the recent attacks. He expressed solidarity with Trkiye, emphasizing the need for 'maximum restraint' and comprehensive dialogue to prevent further escalation. Regarding Azerbaijan, he condemned the attacks and highlighted the importance of maintaining regional stability.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar engaged in discussions with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, focusing on the escalating regional tensions and drone attacks targeting Azerbaijan. The leaders stressed the need for diplomatic solutions to de-escalate the situation and agreed to stay in close contact as developments unfold.

Earlier, Azerbaijani authorities reported that drones launched from Iran targeted the autonomous exclave of Nakhchivan, resulting in injuries and infrastructure damage. The Foreign Ministry detailed that one drone hit Nakhchivan International Airport, while another landed near a school in Shakarabad.

The situation is further complicated by heightened tensions in the Middle East, with ongoing strikes by Israel and the US on Iran, leading to significant casualties. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks on Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. The conflict has also affected NATO territories, with a ballistic munition from Iran intercepted by NATO defense systems near Turkish airspace.
