Beijing: China announced Friday it would provide emergency humanitarian aid to Iran to 'comfort' victims of a school attack amid the US-Israel military campaign against the country. Reiterating its condemnation of indiscriminate attacks on civilians and non-military targets, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun emphasized that such actions seriously violate international humanitarian law.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Red Cross Society of China has pledged $200,000 in emergency humanitarian assistance to the Iranian Red Crescent to support the bereaved families affected by the attack. Guo highlighted China's commitment to providing necessary assistance in a spirit of humanity, extending condolences to the victims and families who have suffered losses.

The attack, which targeted Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab, resulted in the deaths of at least 150 schoolgirls. This strike formed part of a broader joint military operation by the US and Israel that resulted in over 1,300 casualties, including the death of Iran's then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The strikes also left more than 10,000 individuals injured.

In response to the attacks, Tehran launched retaliatory drone and missile strikes against Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf nations hosting US military assets, resulting in the deaths of eight US service members. Subsequently, Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane for global oil and liquefied natural gas, leading to a surge in oil prices.

Guo expressed China's grave concern over the escalating tensions in the Middle East, stressing the importance of respecting the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of all nations. He urged all involved parties to cease military operations, return to dialogue, and prevent further escalation of the conflict.
