Riyadh: Saudi Arabia on Sunday announced that 29 drone attacks have been intercepted since Saturday night by its air defense systems.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Saudi Defense Ministry released a statement detailing the attacks targeting the country. The ministry reported that 25 drones entering Saudi airspace since Saturday night were "destroyed" by the air defense systems. Later in the morning, the ministry confirmed that an additional four drones were intercepted in the Riyadh region.

The statement did not provide details regarding the origin of the drones or whether the attempted attacks resulted in any damage or casualties. This development follows a pattern of ongoing tensions in the region. Since February 28, Tehran has been conducting missile and drone attacks against US bases and strategic locations in Arab countries as retaliation for attacks by the US and Israel on Iran.

Previously, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced an attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base in the city of Al-Kharj, located in eastern Saudi Arabia, where US forces are stationed.
