Abu dhabi: Operations at the Shah Gas Field in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates were suspended after a drone attack caused a fire that was brought under control, authorities said late Monday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Abu Dhabi authorities and relevant response teams have contained and brought under control a fire that broke out at the Shah gas field, caused by a drone attack. Operations at the facility have been suspended while damage is assessed, and no injuries have been reported, the Abu Dhabi Media Office shared on US social media company X.

The media office urged the public to obtain information "only from official sources and to avoid spreading rumours or unverified information."

The attack occurred amidst escalating hostilities in the region following joint attacks by Israel and the US on Iran on February 28, which have resulted in over 1,300 casualties, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. These actions have disrupted global markets and aviation, and blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for oil shipments. Some of these retaliatory attacks have resulted in casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, including airports, ports, and buildings.
