Tehran: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on Tuesday that Gholamreza Soleimani, the commander of the paramilitary Basij forces, was killed in a joint US-Israeli strike.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Fars News Agency reported the incident without providing additional specifics. The Israeli army had previously declared that Soleimani was 'eliminated' during an overnight strike on Monday.
US-Israeli joint operations against Iran have been ongoing since February 28, resulting in approximately 1,300 fatalities, including the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military assets, leading to casualties and infrastructure damage. These actions have further disrupted global markets and aviation activities.
