Vatican city: Pope Leo XIV reiterated Monday the media's duty to show the reality of war from a human perspective so that it does not turn into a 'video game.'

According to Anadolu Agency, addressing Italian journalists, he stressed that the media's job is "to show the suffering that war always brings to populations, to show the face of war, and to tell it through the eyes of the victims so that it does not turn into a video game."

The Pope emphasized the importance of information maintaining its integrity, particularly during the dramatic circumstances of war. He warned against the risk of information turning into propaganda, urging journalists to verify news in times of conflict to avoid becoming a megaphone for power.

He further highlighted the essential role journalists play in ensuring transparency and discouraged the media from confirming only their own perspectives. He acknowledged the difficulty in allowing oneself to be surprised by various perspectives and voices, noting the strong temptation to seek out and listen only to what confirms one's own opinions.
