Islamabad: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Trkiye played a 'constructive role' in achieving a ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan. This announcement was made during a discussion about his recent communication with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to Anadolu Agency, Sharif expressed his gratitude for Trkiye's support on social media platform X, highlighting its contribution to the temporary ceasefire during the Eid celebrations. The conversation between Sharif and Erdogan also touched upon the current situation in Afghanistan and the Middle East. Sharif voiced his condemnation of attacks on Trkiye and other countries in the region, reaffirming Pakistan's solidarity with these nations.
The ceasefire announcement came on Wednesday, coinciding with the Muslim holiday of Eid. It was facilitated by efforts from Trkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Over recent weeks, tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have intensified, leading to border conflicts and resulting in both casualties and property damage.
