Abu dhabi: The UAE said early Saturday that its air defense systems and fighter jets are actively intercepting missiles and drones originating from Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, the UAE Defense Ministry announced on US social media company X that air defenses and fighter jets are currently engaging in missile and drone attacks from Iran. Authorities noted that explosions heard in various parts of the country were linked to these interception efforts, explaining that the sounds resulted from air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles and fighter jets intercepting cruise missiles and UAVs.

No further details were provided regarding casualties, damage, or the number of projectiles intercepted. The ongoing tensions arise from nearly a month of US and Israeli air offensives on Iran, which have resulted in over 1,340 deaths, including that of the then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and neighboring countries, including those hosting US military assets, leading to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions in global markets and aviation.
