Tokyo: Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi on Monday called for the safety of all vessels, including Japanese ships, to be ensured in the Strait of Hormuz during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
According to Anadolu Agency, Motegi expressed concern over the 'prolonged' conflict and stressed that a swift resolution is of paramount importance, as stated in a release from Japan's Foreign Ministry. He also urged all parties involved to continue diplomatic engagement and called for the release of a Japanese national detained in Iran.
The Japanese foreign minister also conveyed his 'grave concern over the current deterioration of the situation in the Middle East' and appreciated Pakistan's mediation efforts during a separate phone call with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Motegi emphasized that an 'early de-escalation' of the situation is of 'utmost importance,' expressing Japan's willingness to 'work closely' with Pakistan on 'safe navigation' in the Strait of Hormuz.
Dar highlighted Islamabad's commitment to supporting 'all initiatives aimed at de-escalation and the achievement of lasting peace and stability,' according to a statement from Pakistan's Foreign Ministry.
