Szekesfehervar: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared on Saturday that his ruling Fidesz party is the ‘loud majority’ at a campaign rally ahead of the Sunday elections in Hungary. During the rally, Orban emphasized the need for ‘3 million votes’ to secure a victory in the parliamentary elections and urged support for Fidesz candidates Tamas Vargha and Gabor Toro.

According to Anadolu Agency, Orban highlighted the progress Hungary has made since 2010 and called for national unity ahead of the vote. He reiterated Hungary’s stance on not being drawn into the war in Ukraine, referencing commitments made during the 2022 election campaign. Orban also criticized proposals related to EU funding and energy policy, suggesting they could increase financial pressure on households and affect access to affordable energy.

Orban further stated that his government’s tax policy on multinational companies had been instrumental in financing family support measures. At the same rally, Szekesfehervar Mayor Andras Cser-Palkovics described Fidesz as ‘the safe choice,’ while regional candidate Gabor Toro emphasized the party’s role as the only force capable of ensuring stability.

Hungary is set to hold parliamentary elections on Sunday. A compilation of polling published by the Politico news website indicates Orban’s Fidesz party is trailing the opposition Tisza Party by 11 points.
