Beirut: The overall death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2 has surged to 2,020, with 6,436 people injured, the Health Ministry stated on Saturday evening. In its latest statement, the ministry reported that 97 people were killed and 133 injured over the past 24 hours. The figures include 165 children killed and 641 injured, as well as 248 women killed and 1,107 injured, according to the ministry.
According to Anadolu Agency, on Friday evening, the Lebanese presidency announced that Lebanon and Israel have agreed to hold their first meeting on April 14 at the US State Department in Washington, DC. The aim of this meeting is to secure a ceasefire and initiate direct talks. The expected talks come as Iran and the US are holding rare discussions in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, to end a conflict that began on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
Saturday’s meeting in Islamabad follows US President Donald Trump’s announcement on Tuesday of a two-week ceasefire with Iran. Trump stated that Tehran has presented a ‘workable’ 10-point proposal for negotiations, indicating a potential path toward de-escalation.
