Washington: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on Tuesday that the United States is collaborating with Gulf allies who are increasingly open to sharing information concerning bank accounts associated with members of the Iranian regime. This development is viewed as a significant stride in the ongoing efforts to monitor and limit financial channels connected to Iran.
According to Anadolu Agency, Bessent highlighted that the cooperation with Gulf allies represents progress in the broader strategy to track and restrict Iran-related financial activities. He emphasized the importance of this collaboration in enforcing existing measures against Iran.
Bessent further mentioned that the US authorities have initiated dialogues with international banks, including those in China, to deter Iran-related transactions. He reiterated that purchases of Iranian goods are prohibited under the current sanctions framework and cautioned that any violations could lead to secondary sanctions.
His statements reflect an intensified effort by the US to exert financial pressure on Iran while seeking wider global adherence to its sanctions regime. Bessent's remarks underscore Washington's commitment to enforcing these measures and ensuring international banks' compliance.
