Mays al-jabal: Israeli forces burned homes in the town of Mays al-Jabal in southern Lebanon on Thursday, in violation of a temporary ceasefire, Lebanese media reported. The state-run National News Agency said several homes were set ablaze early morning by Israeli forces in the Mufaylaha neighborhood in the town in the Marjayoun district.

According to Anadolu Agency, in a separate incident, the Israeli army carried out a bombing operation in the nearby town of Khiam. The escalation came as Washington is expected to host a second round of preliminary talks between Lebanon and Israel at the ambassadorial level on Thursday evening in an effort to reach an agreement to end the Israeli war.

A high-level Lebanese official told Anadolu that Beirut 'will request during the meeting an extension of the ceasefire and a halt to the demolition of homes and the bulldozing of houses in occupied villages.' The meeting scheduled for Thursday evening is a follow-up to a preparatory session held last week, he added.

A 10-day ceasefire announced by the US on April 16 is set to expire Sunday and has been violated daily by Israel. Over 2,200 people have been killed and more than 1 million displaced by expanded Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2, soon after the start of the Iran war.
