Iran Military Official Warns of Potential Renewed Conflict with US

Tehran: A senior Iranian military official warned that renewed conflict with the US is 'likely,' according to the semi-official Fars news agency. "A renewed conflict between Iran and the United States is likely, and evidence has also shown that the United States does not adhere to any commitments or agreement," Mohammad Jafar Asadi, deputy inspector of the military headquarters, said in a statement carried by the news agency.

According to Anadolu Agency, Asadi further criticized US officials, stating that their actions and statements are primarily media-oriented. He argued that their objectives are to prevent a drop in oil prices and to escape the predicament they have created for themselves. He emphasized that the Iranian armed forces are prepared for any renewed adventurism or miscalculation by the United States.

The tensions between the US and Iran have been escalating since the US and Israel initiated strikes against Iran on February 28. This action prompted retaliation from Tehran against US allies in the Gulf and led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire was announced on April 8, facilitated by Pakistani mediation, followed by talks in Islamabad on April 11-12. However, the discussions did not result in an agreement.

In response to the ongoing tensions, US President Donald Trump unilaterally extended the truce at Pakistan's request, though no new timeframe was set. Meanwhile, Iran has submitted a new proposal to Pakistan to resume negotiations with the US, aiming to reach an agreement to end the conflict. It remains uncertain whether these diplomatic efforts will succeed in reviving the talks and achieving a resolution.
