N'djamena: The UN said Tuesday that last week saw a surge in security incidents in the Gaza Strip since the announcement of a ceasefire, with humanitarian facilities repeatedly coming under attack.

According to Anadolu Agency, citing the Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated during a news conference that "last week saw one of the highest numbers of security incidents since the ceasefire was declared in October of last year." He noted that humanitarian facilities had come under fire in two separate incidents, and an airstrike had struck near a UN warehouse, damaging relief vehicles through stone throwing.

Dujarric urged all parties to "fulfill their obligations to facilitate, not obstruct humanitarian operations," emphasizing the need for protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure. He also highlighted the impact of Israeli restrictions on essential items, warning that the entry limitations on engine oil, spare parts, rubble removal machinery, and other critical supplies are severely hindering essential services in Gaza.

He explained that vehicles and generators are breaking down beyond repair, causing disruptions in food distribution, water trucking, and ambulance services, further exacerbating the humanitarian situation in the region.
