Putin Describes Russian Soldiers Facing NATO-Backed Aggression

Moscow: Russian soldiers are confronting 'an aggressive force' armed and supported by entire NATO, President Vladimir Putin said Saturday. Delivering a speech at a Victory Day parade on Red Square marking the anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II, Putin emphasized the inspiration drawn from the 'generation of victors' for soldiers engaged in current military operations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Putin also highlighted the advancements made by Russian scientists and engineers in developing advanced weaponry, leveraging modern combat experiences. Reflecting on World War II, he acknowledged the crucial role played by the Soviet people in defeating Nazism and preserving global safety.

The Victory Day parade witnessed attendance from notable foreign dignitaries, including Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakhstan's Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith, and Malaysia's King Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar. The event featured personnel involved in Russia's 'special military operation,' military cadets, and servicemen from various branches, including the North Korean army.

In anticipation of the celebrations, Russia's Defense Ministry proposed a two-day ceasefire for May 8-9, warning of a 'massive' missile response should disruptions occur. Ukraine reciprocated with a unilateral ceasefire starting at midnight Tuesday. However, accusations of ceasefire violations surfaced from both sides.

On Friday, US President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social media that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to the ceasefire and a 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner exchange, acknowledging the efforts of Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump expressed hope that this agreement could signify the beginning of the end of the ongoing conflict, the most significant since World War II, with ongoing talks showing promise for resolution.
