Seoul: Senior trade negotiators from China and the United States are set to engage in economic and trade consultations in South Korea this Wednesday, prior to an anticipated visit by US President Donald Trump to China. China's Commerce Ministry announced that Vice Premier He Lifeng will lead the Chinese delegation to Seoul on Tuesday and Wednesday for these discussions.

According to Anadolu Agency, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will represent the American side in the talks. Bessent revealed on Sunday his travel plans to Japan and South Korea starting Monday, ahead of Trump's expected summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. During his visit to Japan, Bessent is scheduled to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama, and other government and private-sector figures to discuss US-Japan economic relations.

Bessent will then proceed to Seoul on Wednesday for discussions with Vice Premier He. Highlighting the importance of the talks, Bessent stated, "Economic security is national security." This meeting will follow the sixth round of US-China economic and trade consultations, which took place in Paris in March.
