Tehran: Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran for his second visit to Iran within a week. His visit comes amid ongoing mediation efforts between Iran and the US.
According to Anadolu Agency, Naqvi met with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni shortly after his arrival. The details of their discussions have not been disclosed.
The IRNA news agency reported that Naqvi is expected to hold meetings with senior Iranian officials during his visit. This diplomatic effort marks his second trip to Tehran in a short span, reflecting Pakistan's active role in mediating tensions between Iran and the US.
During Naqvi's previous visit to Tehran, he engaged in discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, and Momeni, as reported by Iranian media.
The backdrop of these diplomatic efforts is the heightened regional tension following US and Israeli strikes against Iran on February 28, which led to retaliatory actions by Tehran. The situation escalated with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire was brokered on April 8 through Pakistani intervention, but talks in Islamabad failed to yield a long-term solution. US President Donald Trump has since extended the truce indefinitely, while continuing to enforce a blockade on vessels navigating to or from Iranian ports via the critical maritime route.
