Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as US Director of National Intelligence Due to Husband’s Health Concerns

Washington: US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced her resignation from President Donald Trump's administration on Friday, citing her husband's cancer diagnosis as the reason for her departure.

According to Anadolu Agency, Gabbard stated in a letter shared on the US social media platform X that her resignation would be effective June 30, 2026. She revealed her husband, Abraham, had been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer, prompting her decision to step down. Gabbard expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for the past year and a half, addressing her resignation letter to Trump.

Trump corroborated Gabbard's resignation in a post on his platform, Truth Social, acknowledging her contributions and announcing that Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas would assume her role in an acting capacity. The decision, which had been reported earlier in US media, is said to be unrelated to any controversy or concerns about Gabbard's performance, as noted by news outlet Axios.
