Washington: US President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that discussions with Iran are "orderly and constructive," yet emphasized that the blockade will persist until a final agreement is achieved. "The Blockade will remain in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed. Both sides must take their time and get it right. There can be no mistakes!" Trump declared in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump mentioned that US-Iran relations are evolving to be "much more professional and productive," while warning against the development or acquisition of nuclear weapons by Tehran. He expressed gratitude towards Middle Eastern nations for their "support and cooperation," suggesting that engagement could be deepened through increased participation in the Abraham Accords, and hinted at the possibility of Iran joining the framework in the future.
Trump criticized the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, labeling it as "one of the worst agreements ever made," and attributed its flaws to former President Barack Obama's administration, which he claimed facilitated a path towards nuclear weapons development. He asserted that the current negotiations with Iran are "far better" and part of a more effective strategy, aimed at preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear arms.
In a subsequent post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump assured that any forthcoming agreement with Iran would be "good and proper," contrasting it with the 2015 nuclear deal under former President Obama, which he alleged provided Tehran with "massive amounts of cash" and "a clear and open path to a nuclear weapon." He emphasized that the ongoing negotiations are "the exact opposite," and noted that the deal is still under negotiation. Trump dismissed critics of the talks, asserting they "know nothing about" the process, and emphasized that, unlike previous administrations, he does not "make bad deals."
