Islamabad: Pakistan on Thursday called for 'restraint' following Iranian attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain. 'We call for the utmost restraint and hope both sides will adhere to the ceasefire,' Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Andrabi told reporters in Islamabad, according to local broadcaster Geo TV.

According to Anadolu Agency, Andrabi warned that the renewed military escalation was a 'major obstacle' to reaching an agreement between the US and Iran. He further stated that Pakistan is ready to host any fresh talks between the two sides, following Islamabad's successful hosting of high-level Iran-US talks in April after a ceasefire.

The recent hostilities escalated earlier this week when the US military carried out strikes near the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Tehran to retaliate with missile attacks on Wednesday. Drones also targeted the Kuwait International Airport, resulting in one fatality.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps denied targeting the airport, attributing damage to a passenger terminal to a malfunctioning US-made Patriot missile system. In contrast, US Central Command (CENTCOM) refuted this claim, attributing the damage to Iranian drones.

Despite these conflicting claims, Iran asserted responsibility for attacks on US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, citing them as a response to alleged US strikes on Qeshm Island in the strategic strait. Pakistan continues to play a crucial role as the primary mediator between the US and Iran since the conflict erupted on February 28.
