Beirut: An Israeli soldier was killed in southern Lebanon, the military reported, increasing the military death toll to 28 since the onset of the conflict with Iran in late February.

According to Anadolu Agency, the soldier was serving as a tank commander in the 75th Battalion of the 7th Armored Brigade. Israeli Channel 12 disclosed that the soldier died when an anti-tank missile struck his tank in southern Lebanon. This incident marks the fourth death of an Israeli soldier over the past week, amid ongoing hostilities along the Lebanese border.

The soldier's death has brought the total number of Israeli military personnel killed since the start of Israel's military campaign against Iran in late February, and against Lebanon in early March, to 28. Military statistics also indicate that 1,243 Israeli soldiers have been wounded during this period.

On Wednesday, Lebanon and Israel agreed to renew their fragile ceasefire and establish 'pilot zones.' These zones will place the Lebanese army in exclusive territorial control, excluding all non-state actors. The agreement was announced following a fourth round of US-mediated talks held at the State Department.

The US-sponsored discussions came after weeks of Israeli strikes on Lebanon that have resulted in nearly 3,500 casualties since March 2. This occurred despite a ceasefire that took effect on April 17 and was later extended until early July.
