Tel aviv: The Israeli army acknowledged Wednesday that the Ramat David Airbase in northern Israel sustained 'minor' damage after coming under Iranian missile fire earlier this week.
According to Anadolu Agency, Israel's public broadcaster KAN reported that the army confirmed damage to an equipment warehouse at the base after debris from an Iranian missile fell inside the facility. An unnamed military source stated that missile fragments 'caused dust to spread inside a nearby warehouse and around a forklift,' and that the damage was considered 'minimal.'
The acknowledgment from the Israeli army came two days after Iran launched missile barrages targeting northern and central Israel. This attack was a response to an Israeli strike on Beirut's southern suburbs, which is part of Israel's ongoing military actions in Lebanon. These actions continue despite a fragile ceasefire in place since April 17, extended by Washington through early July to prevent further escalation.
The army's confirmation followed the release of a satellite image that seemed to show damage to the airbase. KAN reported that 'a satellite image taken Monday showed a dark spot at Ramat David Airbase that could indicate the facility had been hit during the Iranian missile attack two days earlier.'
On Sunday, the Israeli army claimed that it had intercepted all missiles launched from Iran. However, the Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported a different account, citing a low-resolution satellite image taken Monday and compared with imagery from June 5, which showed a visible mark at the hangar site.
The Yedioth Ahronoth noted that the Ramat David Airbase, approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the Lebanese border, hosts five squadrons, including F-16 fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles. The base has frequently been within the range of Hezbollah attacks, which previously released drone footage in 2024 showing critical infrastructure at the base.
Hezbollah's footage allegedly included images of aircraft fuel tanks, squadron headquarters, an Iron Dome battery, ammunition depots, and various other facilities at the base. Israeli military censorship restricts the publication of detailed information on Iranian missile attacks, including specifics on missile numbers and landing locations.
KAN, operating under military censorship, indicated that the authorities had approved the publication of the report. Amidst the ongoing conflict with Iran, Israel has been conducting a significant offensive in Lebanon since March 2. Official Lebanese figures report that these attacks have resulted in 3,696 deaths, 11,413 injuries, and displaced over 1 million people as of Wednesday.
