Luxembourg: French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on Monday announced that the EU will adopt new sanctions against 54 entities over the operation of Russia's shadow fleet.

According to Anadolu Agency, Barrot stated that the sanctions are targeted at entities responsible for the shadow fleet that enables Russia to evade existing sanctions. These measures were discussed ahead of a Foreign Affairs Council meeting held in Luxembourg. Barrot emphasized that the pressure on Russia will continue and reiterated the EU's ongoing support for Ukraine, highlighting the formal opening of EU accession talks with Ukrainian authorities.

Barrot also revealed sanctions against individuals involved in the attempted assassination of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and those disseminating Kremlin propaganda in Europe. Furthermore, he condemned Russia's recent missile attacks on Kyiv, which resulted in a fire at the historic Assumption Cathedral in the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastic complex. Barrot compared the significance of this event to a hypothetical attack on iconic sites like Notre-Dame or Saint-Denis in France, labeling it as unacceptable.
