Tehran: The first Iranian ships traversed the US naval blockade without hindrance after a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities between Washington and Tehran was reached, as reported by Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, at least three Iranian oil tankers and two cargo ships carrying essential goods successfully moved through the US naval blockade following the landmark accord between the two nations. This development marks a significant shift in the geopolitical dynamics in the region.

The report highlighted that a large Iranian oil tanker, identified as a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), along with another vessel utilized for transporting livestock, navigated from open waters toward Iranian ports. Additionally, another Iranian tanker laden with oil crossed the Gulf of Oman heading towards its designated export port, although specific details regarding the destination remain undisclosed.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country played a crucial role in mediating between Washington and Tehran, revealed on Monday that both the US and Iran had reached a comprehensive agreement after extensive negotiations. Both nations have declared an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations across all fronts, including the volatile region of Lebanon. The formal signing of the agreement is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Friday.
