Beirut: Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf have urged the United States to take action to compel Israel to end its war on Lebanon. They emphasized the need for Israel to cease home demolitions and withdraw from occupied Lebanese territories. This appeal was made during a phone call in which the two leaders discussed recent regional developments, particularly following a US-Iran agreement aimed at ending hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussion between Berri and Qalibaf centered around military and political developments related to the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran. A significant point of their conversation was the clause concerning the cessation of the Israeli conflict in Lebanon. Both officials highlighted the importance of the United States, as a guarantor of the memorandum, along with the international community, in taking responsibility to ensure Israel respects Lebanon's sovereignty and halts its aggressive actions.

The call comes in the wake of a recent announcement by Washington and Tehran regarding a memorandum of understanding to end the war initiated by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28. Although US President Donald Trump claimed the agreement had been signed, and that the Strait of Hormuz would be fully reopened soon, Tehran has stated the memorandum is set to be signed in Geneva later this week.

Since the beginning of March, Israeli military operations in Lebanon have resulted in thousands of casualties and displaced over a million people, as per official reports. Israel continues to occupy several areas in southern Lebanon, some of which have been under occupation for decades, while others were seized during the ongoing conflict, with Israeli forces advancing more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory.
