Vatican city: Pope Leo XIV on Wednesday stressed the need for the recently announced agreement between the US and Iran to enforce security and stability across the Middle East.

According to Anadolu Agency, the pontiff expressed his hope that the agreement would contribute to strengthening mutual trust, security, and stability in the region, while promoting dialogue and cooperation among the peoples. He conveyed his message through the US social media platform X, welcoming the agreement as an "encouraging outcome of patient work in dialogue and negotiation."

Pope Leo further expressed his gratitude to the countries that played a role in fostering the encounter between the parties, making such an understanding possible. The temporary truce between Washington and Tehran was initially mediated by Pakistan this April, leading to the announcement of a framework agreement this Monday. The accord is expected to be formally signed in Switzerland on Friday.
