Minsk: Belarus' Foreign Ministry announced that it summoned Ukraine's acting charge d'affaires, Ivan Novitsky, to deliver a formal protest concerning a reported drone strike on a bus carrying Belarusian citizens in Russia's Bryansk region. The incident resulted in the death of one Belarusian citizen and injured six others, including five children.
According to Anadolu Agency, the ministry's statement labeled the attack as a terrorist act and strongly condemned it as inhumane, emphasizing that there can be no justification for such actions. The note of protest handed to the Ukrainian diplomat highlighted the severity of the injuries sustained by some of the victims.
Reports from Russian and Belarusian officials indicate that the bus was transporting members of a youth football team from Belarus' Gomel region, traveling through the Bryansk region when the attack took place. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry, prior to lodging the protest, had called for a comprehensive explanation from Ukraine regarding the reported drone strike.
The incident has escalated tensions between Belarus and Ukraine, with Belarus demanding accountability and clarification from the Ukrainian authorities.
