Ankara: Germany's opposition Left Party has officially termed Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip as 'genocide'. This follows a resolution that was adopted by a substantial majority at the party's national convention held in the city of Potsdam.

According to Anadolu Agency, the resolution cites international organizations, human rights groups, and numerous experts in international law to support its stance on the situation in Gaza. The resolution emphasizes the party's agreement with the assessment that a genocide is occurring against the Palestinians.

The Left Party's resolution also highlights its commitment to the right of existence for both Israel and Palestine. It acknowledges Israel's significance as a refuge for Jews while also advocating for Palestine's right to exist and for equal rights for all individuals residing in Palestine.

The conflict in Gaza began in October 2023, and Palestinian figures report that the offensive has resulted in the deaths of more than 73,000 Palestinians, with over 173,000 others wounded, predominantly women and children. Furthermore, the offensive has severely damaged much of Gaza's civilian infrastructure.

Despite a ceasefire that has been in effect since October 10, 2025, ongoing Israeli attacks and restrictions have continued. These actions have resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 additional Palestinians and have left more than 3,100 injured since the truce was implemented.
