Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian cautioned against messages that could potentially incite division within Iran, marking his first public statement following the commencement of US-Iran discussions in Switzerland. In his address delivered in Tehran, Pezeshkian emphasized that the Iranian negotiation team approached the talks with the United States ‘without offering any concessions,’ as reported by the ISNA news agency.

According to Anadolu Agency, Pezeshkian highlighted the detrimental effects of internal discord, suggesting that any divisive messages only serve adversarial interests. He stressed that Iran remains steadfast and will not concede if the other party disregards its rights during negotiations. Pezeshkian pointed to a specific instance where the US retracted on the Lebanon issue at Iran’s behest during the discussions, indicating some positive outcomes.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi echoed these sentiments, asserting that the negotiations in Switzerland, facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar, have yielded ‘significant progress.’ The talks aim to resolve the ongoing conflict in Lebanon and alleviate economic pressures on Iran, signaling a potential turning point in regional diplomacy.
