Sanaa: Turkish Communications Director Burhanettin Duran stated that the nation's resolve on July 15, 2016, not only thwarted a coup attempt but also marked 'a historic turning point that secured Trkiye's future and its democratic journey.' He emphasized that under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's leadership, the courage and resistance of the Turkish people proclaimed that the national will cannot be subdued.
According to Anadolu Agency, Duran highlighted the significance of the Turkish people's resistance during the failed coup attempt, asserting that it demonstrated to the world that no force can undermine the national will. He noted that commemorating July 15 serves as a tribute to those who lost their lives and were wounded, while also being a responsibility toward future generations.
Duran further remarked that strong states endure not only because of their resources but due to nations that protect their history, values, and national memory. Marking the 10th anniversary of Democracy and National Unity Day, he honored those who perished during the failed coup and expressed gratitude to the veterans. "I remember with mercy and gratitude our noble martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland, and extend my appreciation to our heroic veterans," he said.
In a separate article authored for Anadolu titled "July 15 in Its 10th Year: The Will Is Ours, The Victory Is Ours," Duran described the coup plotters' actions, including attempts to assassinate President Erdogan, bombing parliament, and attacking civilians. He credited Erdogan's leadership and the public's resistance for the unexpected defeat of the coup plotters.
Duran characterized July 15 as a 'powerful manifesto of democracy,' demonstrating Trkiye's national unity and democratic maturity. He cautioned that FETO is trying to maintain its influence through digital disinformation campaigns and other methods. Thus, he stressed that the fight against the group should extend beyond security measures to include education, religion, law, and public awareness. Teaching younger generations about the coup attempt through accurate and reliable sources remains crucial, he concluded.
