Hungary: Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced an investigation into former Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto's alleged connections with Russia. Magyar, however, refrained from divulging further details during a government briefing, stating only that the investigation involves classified Foreign Ministry and other official documents.
According to Anadolu Agency, the announcement stems from media reports earlier this year, which suggested that Szijjarto shared sensitive information with Russian officials during his tenure as foreign minister. Responding to these allegations, Szijjarto had dismissed parts of the reports as "fake news," emphasizing that engaging with Russian, US, Turkish, and Israeli counterparts was standard diplomatic procedure.
The investigation's revelation comes shortly after Szijjarto announced his departure from parliament to assume an international executive role with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD. Prime Minister Magyar expressed his intent not to "prejudge the case" and assured that the public would be informed when there is more to disclose.
