Ankara: Italy is set to host a new round of talks on Lebanon on August 4, as announced by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. This initiative underscores Italy's prominent role in the ongoing diplomatic process.

According to Anadolu Agency, Tajani highlighted this development as a significant achievement, resulting from patient foreign policy efforts. He emphasized that these efforts are aimed at building bridges rather than erecting walls. Tajani's remarks came during a joint meeting with Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, as they briefed lawmakers on the outcomes of the recent NATO summit in Trkiye.

Tajani also announced that Rome will host a Global Alliance meeting on the two-state solution on July 28-29. He will co-chair the meeting with his Saudi counterpart, aiming to inject new momentum into last year's New York Declaration. The gathering will focus on interfaith dialogue as part of broader efforts to promote peace.

In his address, Tajani expressed concerns about the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements and violence by occupiers, labeling them as "unacceptable." He stated that Italy is working at the European level to achieve unanimity on proposals for sanctions against Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and settlers responsible for violent acts.

Furthermore, Tajani mentioned that Italy has increased its security spending to 2.8% of GDP and is committed to reaching NATO's 5% target in the next decade. Defense Minister Crosetto added that Italy must contribute to strengthening NATO's eastern flank while reinforcing the European pillar within the alliance. He stressed that Europe's security encompasses not only its eastern borders but also extends through the Mediterranean, Middle East, and Africa.
