Ankara: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the Polish city of Lublin following his visit to the United States, where he engaged in discussions with American President Donald Trump.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy's arrival in Lublin was confirmed by the Ukrainian state news agency, Ukrinform. The Ukrainian leader is scheduled to meet with Poland's Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, to discuss the outcomes of his Washington, DC visit and his meeting with Trump. This meeting is set to take place in Lublin, as stated by the premier's office through the US social media platform X.

The discussions between Zelenskyy and Tusk will center around the Ukrainian president's visit to the US, where he described his meeting with Trump as 'good'. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of reinvigorating diplomatic processes and mentioned ongoing discussions regarding the production of Patriot interceptor licenses. He expressed gratitude for the US's unwavering support.

During his US visit, Zelenskyy also attended the funeral of the late US Senator Lindsey Graham and engaged in talks with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and a bipartisan group of US senators. The US Senate also advanced the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 in its initial vote.

Poland has been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, despite historical and political tensions. Zelenskyy's visit to Lublin marks his first to Poland since recent tensions arose after he named a military unit after the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), a move that sparked controversy due to the UPA's historical actions against Polish civilians during World War II.

In response to Zelenskyy's actions, Polish President Karol Nawrocki revoked the Order of the White Eagle awarded to him, citing the need to honor Polish victims and promote historical reconciliation. Zelenskyy later announced that he would return the award and emphasized Ukraine's openness to dialogue with Poland to address historical conflicts and honor all victims.

Both countries have since sought to mend ties, with Zelenskyy advocating for respectful and mutually beneficial relations within Europe. Prime Minister Tusk expressed readiness for dialogue, highlighting the importance of addressing both unifying and divisive issues.
